Other Mission Trips
SCVC has sent a mission team to serve the people of Belize annually for the past several years. In 2004 a team was sent to serve and support our missionaries at Thiu Rancho in Cochabamba, Bolivia. We continue to be open to serving on future global mission trips as we are here to helpspread the Word of God.
Thiu Rancho
Gordon and Ardell Graner, our UMC missionaries at the Thiu Rancho Center in Cochabamba, Bolivia, are building a community of faith and sharing Christ with the Quechua people. Our missionaries oversee the conference and retreat center where Methodist pastors are trained for ministry. Also at Thiu Rancho, youth and families come together to worship, study the Bible, share meals, and fellowship. There is a Montessori preschool program, and  an after-school library program where youth tutors support the children. There is also an integrated health program including primary health care and education for children and their caregivers. Also at Thiu Rancho is a mom’s group to support the empowerment of the women and families in the nearby Thiu Rancho community.

Operation Christmas Child
SCVUMC partners with Samaritan’s Purse, a ministry of Franklin Graham, by filling shoeboxes with small gifts for children in third world countries. Our members and their children participate in this ministry by filling shoeboxes with gifts to provide hope, share the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and Christmas cheer with poor children around the world. These gifts often provide a child with the only toy they have ever been able to call their very own, and sometimes the only Christmas gift they have ever received. The gifts also bring happiness to parents as they witness the joy of their children in receiving these gifts. Because the children also receive Gospel storybooks about the life of Christ, written in their own language, this program introduces millions of boys and girls, and ultimately their families and friends, to Jesus.
United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). In addition to SCVUMC Mission’s donations, special offerings are taken and sent to UMCOR to help provide funding for supplies and humanitarian efforts following such disasters as hurricanes, tsunamis, tornadoes, earthquakes, and floods. 100% on these funds go directly to relief, both nationally and internationally.
Knit For Kids Sweater Program
If you knit, crochet, or work on a Knifty Knitter loom, you have an opportunity to help children in the U.S. and around the world to cuddle up in a nice new sweater- knit with love by you just for them. It is like sending a warm hug!  The pattern is easy (a simple “T” pullover), and yarn is available free, if you need it.  You choose the colors you want, and the size you want to make, then have fun creating the sweater while thinking about and praying for the child who will soon receive this special hand-made gift. We’ll even do the mailing for you!  It is just that simple to help a child in need!
In 1996,  Guideposts Magazine started the knit for Kids (K4K) program, which has now made a difference in the lives of over a half a million children in our country and around the world. For some of these children it is the first time in their lives they have had something new to call their own.  Through the support of Guideposts and the efforts of the Christian humanitarian organization, World Vision, these precious gifts to children have been carried as far away as Azerbaijan, Kenya, Thailand, and Banda Aceh, and as close to home as West Virginia, New Orleans, and the Bronx.
Just within the last few years the men (yes, that’s right – men) and women of SCVUMC have created and sent several hundred sweaters to the Knit for Kids program for distribution. If you are interested in giving it a try, you can obtain copies of the patterns from Lori in the church office.  Finished sweaters may be placed in the large basket at the entry to the church library. When we have enough sweaters, we have them blessed during a church service, then we box them up and send them to K4K at World Vision. If you have questions about our church’s K4K program, you may contact Judy Klos at 651-439-5301.
Request for Yarn: If you have yarn that you would like to donate, we will graciously receive it to be used for making the Knit for Kids sweaters. Just bring the yarn to church in a bag or box labeled “Knit for Kids,” place it by the sweater basket at the entrance to the library, and we will put it to good use. Thank you.
